Get startedNurses, aged care workers, midwives and other healthcare workers are faced with many situations, such as patient handling, that put you at risk of injury. But getting injured isn’t part of your job.
We’ve helped many healthcare workers get compensation for injuries, but we understand your situation is unique, and you’re different from every one of them. Getting you more compensation starts with building a personal relationship with you, to truly understand your situation.
There’s no cost to speak to a workers compensation lawyer, tell your side of the story, and find out how much you can claim.
The amount you can claim for your injury depends on your whole person impairment (WPI) assessment. Here’s a summary of entitlements:
Workers Compensation Payment NSW | Description |
---|---|
Weekly payments | These are payments to compensate you for lost income while you’re off work. |
Medical expenses | Payment of your medical, hospital, ambulance, rehabilitation (including home help) and travel expenses. |
Permanent impairment payout | A lump sum compensation payout to cover permanent impairment as a result of work-related injury or illness. |
Work Injury Damages payout | Also known as common law claim, this is a lump sum payout for damages if your injury was caused by your employer’s negligence. |
To qualify for a permanent impairment lump sum for a farm injury, you’ll need to be assessed as having a WPI of 11% or more. Our specialist workers compensation lawyers can make sure your assessment is done correctly and that you receive your full entitlements, including any lump sums you’re eligible for.
Here are four ways our workers compensation lawyers can get more compensation for your healthcare-related injury:
Your workers compensation lawyer is backed by a team of specialists including paralegals, medico-legal experts, forensic accountants and barristers. Your team will work hard for you, check in with you regularly and always keep you up to date with your case. You’re in safe hands with Australia’s largest specialist personal injury firm.
If your workers compensation claim is denied, there are options open to you to dispute the decision.
The insurer that has denied your claim must notify you in writing of their reasons for the denial and provide information on the next steps available to you.
Here are some examples of common disputes:
On 1 March 2021, the Personal Injury Commission (PIC) became the central body for resolving all workers compensation disputes.
If you have a dispute with an insurer, here are some options:

Weeks 141-260 (no work capacity) | Up to 80% if no work capacity is likely to continue indefinitely |
Weeks 141-260 (some work capacity*) | Weekly benefits stop for most, some exceptions apply |
After 5 years | Weekly payments only available to people with permanent impairment >20% |
*Able to return to suitable employment but not pre-injury employment.

You can make a claim without using a workers compensation lawyer. However, every workers compensation claim is different, and it can be hard to know if you’re getting everything you’re entitled to. It’s also common for insurers to deny part or all of a compensation claim. Our workers compensation lawyers can review your claim and make sure you receive your full entitlements. If you find yourself in a dispute with an insurer, having a lawyer on your side will give you a much better chance of success.
