Helping Those in Need the Driving Force Behind Law Partners Award Winner.
Singers, world famous athletes, movie stars . . . when it comes to asking people who their heroes were as kids, these are generally the professions they’re associated with.
And given the exposure and media coverage our athletes and entertainers receive – it’s not hard to see why this would be the case.
But for 2018 Law Partners Personal Injury award winner, James Bisogni Barnett, his sources of inspiration growing up were a lot closer to home and took on a very different form.
“In terms of heroes and inspirations, for me, it’s always been my parents,” James Bisogni Barnett reveals
“My parents are both lawyers but that’s not the reason I decided to get into law. When I was a kid, they both spent time working in legal aid and devoting their time to those in need and less fortunate.
“I saw the joy that helping people really brought them and I knew then, from very early on, that whatever path I chose when I grew up – I too wanted to help people.”
Currently in his final year studying a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Technology Sydney, James is well on his way to fulfilling his dream and succeeding in a career that’s centred on helping those in need.
And according to James, in today’s world, there’s no more valuable contribution a legal professional could make than educating and providing aid to those who have suffered some form of medical negligence.
“Every day thousands of people around our country visit healthcare professionals – which is a right for everyone, but in saying that, it’s also a right to know that you deserve to be treated with a certain level care by these healthcare professionals,” James says.
“And a lot of the time it’s the really vulnerable people who suffer a loss as a result of error or negligence on the part of the professional, and they don’t always have the knowledge or support to seek the compensation they deserve.
“I really want to help these people, and be the voice that lets them know that there are laws in place to protect them.”
Since taking out the Law Partners award at the UTS Law Awards Ceremony for the best performing student in Law Medicine or Medicine Law in late May, James admits his confidence level is at an all-time high and he can’t wait to stamp his mark in the legal world.
“Like all law students, I really put a lot of work into my studies, so to earn such a prestigious award is not only great recognition of my effort, but also gives me great confidence that I can go on and be the kind of lawyer I want to be,” James admits.
Law Partners has always been a firm that prides itself on developing the careers of young and talented legal professionals, and Managing Director, Adrian Pin, is thrilled to see the award taken out by a very worthy and accomplished individual such as James.
“First of all, we’d like to once again congratulate James on becoming the 2018 Law Partners Personal Injury award winner,” Adrian Pin says.
“It’s extremely rewarding on our part to be able to validate the hard work and sacrifice of a bright legal prospect whose values and commitment to helping people going through a tough time are so closely aligned with ours.
“It’s promising legal minds like James, who are willing to use their skills to turn this world into a better place, who makes us proud to be associated with the UTS Law Ceremony.”
