Commercial Data Scientist

Posted on 15/01/2026
We’re building a commercial analytics capability to drive evidence-based decision making across Marketing, Client Care and Partnerships. This is a data science role for someone who can apply statistical rigour, build predictive models and design experiments to improve lead quality, conversion rates across the end-to-end client intake funnel and ROI.

Commercial Data Scientist

At Law Partners, Australia’s largest specialist personal injury law firm, our mission is simple: help more Australians get the compensation they deserve.

You won’t be measured by the sophistication of your models. You’ll be measured by the quality of the business decisions you enable and the performance improvements you deliver.

Why This Role Exists

We’re investing in data-driven growth and we need someone who can:

  • Build predictive models that improve lead scoring, partner prioritisation and conversion forecasting
  • Design and run experiments to validate what’s actually driving results
  • Apply statistical methods to measure true incremental impact, not just correlations
  • Translate technical analysis into business recommendations that stakeholders act on

This is a high-impact role with direct exposure to leadership and the opportunity to shape how we use data science to optimise commercial performance.

What You’ll Do

Predictive Modelling & Analytics (40%)

  • Build and deploy practical models that create measurable business value:
  • Lead scoring and propensity to convert models
  • Partner lead quality scoring and prioritisation
  • Channel ROI prediction and marketing mix optimisation
  • Early warning indicators for performance degradation
  • Develop customer segmentation models to identify high-value cohorts
  • Apply forecasting techniques for pipeline planning and capacity management
  • Monitor model performance and iterate based on business outcomes

Experimentation & Causal Analysis (30%)

  • Design test-and-learn frameworks across marketing, partnerships and client care
  • Apply causal inference methods to measure incremental impact (propensity score matching, difference-in-differences, instrumental variables)
  • Distinguish causation from correlation in performance analysis
  • Build experimentation infrastructure and educate teams on experimental design
  • Provide leadership with evidence based on rigorous testing

Performance Insights & Recommendations (20%)

  • Diagnose drivers of performance across acquisition channels and lead-to-client funnel
  • Identify growth opportunities through analysis of channel mix, partner performance and conversion leakage
  • Build decision frameworks that prioritise where to invest resources
  • Translate complex statistical analysis into clear executive recommendations

Data Foundations & Collaboration (10%)

  • Work with available data sources (CRM, client care systems, web analytics, marketing platforms)
  • Improve data quality, tracking consistency and measurement definitions
  • Partner with Marketing, Client Care, Partnerships and Finance teams to embed analytics into workflows
  • Present technical findings in plain language that non-technical stakeholders understand

About You

Essential Experience

  • 4+ years applying data science to commercial problems (marketing analytics, growth analytics, customer analytics, revenue optimisation)
  • Proven track record building predictive models that drove measurable business outcomes
  • Experience designing and analysing experiments (A/B tests, multivariate tests)
  • Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable working with imperfect data and improving it over time

Technical Skills (Required)

  • Programming: Python or R for data analysis, modelling and statistical computing
  • Statistics: regression analysis, hypothesis testing, experimental design, causal inference
  • Machine Learning: classification, regression, ensemble methods (XGBoost, Random Forest, logistic regression)
  • SQL: advanced querying for data extraction, transformation and exploratory analysis
  • Data Visualisation: ability to create clear visualisations (matplotlib, seaborn, Tableau, Power BI)

Technical Skills (Desirable)

  • Experience with marketing platforms and APIs (Google Ads, Meta, Salesforce, CRM systems)
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) for scalable analytics
  • Bayesian methods, time-series analysis, survival analysis
  • MLOps or model deployment experience

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience in lead generation or conversion-focused businesses (legal, financial services, insurance, education)
  • Background applying data science in multi-channel marketing environments
  • Track record influencing leadership decisions through data-driven recommendations
  • Consulting or strategy analytics background with commercial storytelling skills

Core Capabilities

  • Commercial mindset: you connect technical work to business value and ROI
  • Pragmatic approach: you choose the right level of sophistication for the problem at hand
  • Clear communicator: you explain complex methods simply and focus on actionable insights
  • Structured thinker: you break down ambiguous problems into testable hypotheses
  • Results-oriented: you measure success by business impact, not technical elegance

Why Law Partners?

  • Purpose-driven work: your models help more Australians access compensation they deserve
  • High-impact role: direct influence on commercial strategy and performance optimisation
  • Technical challenge: apply advanced analytics to real business problems with measurable outcomes
  • Hybrid flexibility: Sydney CBD office above Town Hall Station with flexible working
  • Cross-functional exposure: work with Marketing, Client Care, Partnerships and Finance leadership
  • Autonomy: shape how we apply data science to commercial decision making

Ready to Make an Impact?

If you’re excited about applying data science to drive measurable business outcomes, designing rigorous experiments and translating technical analysis into commercial action, we’d love to hear from you.

Marketing Performance Analyst

Sydney
Full Time HYBRID

Role Summary

At Law Partners, Australia’s largest specialist personal injury law firm, our mission is simple: help more Australians get the compensation they deserve.

We’re looking for a Commercial Performance Analyst who can help us make smarter decisions across the end-to-end client intake funnel. This role is for someone who understands marketing channels, can analyse client intake team performance, sales performance and knows how to connect marketing activity to business outcomes like lead quality, conversion rates and ROI.

You won’t be judged on how many dashboards you produce. You’ll be judged on the quality of your insights, the clarity of your recommendations and the measurable improvements you help drive.

Why This Role Exists

We’re scaling across multiple marketing channels: paid search, paid social, SEO, partnerships and referral networks. With growth comes complexity and we need someone who can:

  • Identify what’s working and what isn’t across acquisition channels
  • Diagnose where leads are dropping off in the conversion funnel
  • Recommend where to invest more, what to optimise and what to stop.
  • Help marketing, client care, legal services and partnerships make faster, more confident decisions

This is a high-impact role with strong exposure to leadership and the ability to shape how we measure and manage marketing performance.

What You’ll Do

End-to-End Performance Insights (40–45%)

  • Build visibility across the full funnel: lead → contact → consult → sign-up → case progression → outcome
  • Track and analyse key performance indicators across teams:
  • Lead volume and quality
  • Speed-to-lead, contact rates, consult show rates
  • Sign-up conversion rate
  • Case progression milestones
  • Outcome rates and value proxies
  • Identify where performance changes occur and diagnose root causes (volume vs quality, process vs behaviour, team vs individual)

Client Care / Intake Performance Analytics (25–30%)

  • Analyse performance at team and individual level within Client Care
  • conversion rates, productivity, follow-up effectiveness, drop-off points
  • Identify what top performers do differently (e.g., call attempts, timing, lead mix, responsiveness, compliance)
  • Build performance frameworks and scorecards that support coaching and leadership decisions
  • Surface operational bottlenecks and recommend process improvements that increase conversion and reduce leakage

Legal Services & Case Performance Insights (15–20%)

  • Work with Legal Services to measure and improve performance indicators such as throughput, cycle time, case stage movement, rework/quality flags
  • Analyse which case types, sources, or process factors correlate with stronger outcomes and client satisfaction
  • Provide insights to inform allocation, prioritisation, and workflow improvements
  • Support performance reporting for leadership (in a way that drives action and improvement)

Partnerships / Distribution Performance (10–15%)

  • Evaluate partner performance beyond lead volume:
  • lead quality, conversion, cost-to-sign, downstream case outcomes
  • Build partner scorecards and recommend where to invest, renegotiate, or stop
  • Identify partner mix opportunities (what partners drive the most valuable and convertible clients)

Forecasting, Capacity & Decision Support (10–15%)

  • Partner with Finance and operational leaders to support forecasting and capacity planning
  • Model demand vs supply constraints (e.g., intake team capacity, appointment availability, legal resourcing)
  • Develop practical scenarios and recommendations to support planning:
  • “if leads increase by X, what happens to conversion and backlog?”
  • “where are capacity constraints impacting outcomes?”

About You

Essential Experience

  • 4+ years in marketing analytics, campaign analysis, performance marketing or marketing operations
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing channels and how they drive business results
  • Experience analysing marketing funnels from awareness through to conversion
  • Proven ability to turn data into insights and recommendations that teams act on
  • Comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders and influencing decisions

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets proficiency
  • Experience with marketing analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager)
  • SQL skills for pulling data from databases and CRM systems (or strong willingness to learn)
  • Experience with BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker) for dashboards and visualisation
  • Comfortable working with imperfect data and improving it over time

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience in lead generation businesses (legal, financial services, insurance, education)
  • Understanding of call centre or client care conversion processes
  • Exposure to partner/referral channel performance
  • Experience with campaign testing and optimisation
  • Basic understanding of statistics (correlation, significance, A/B testing concepts)

Core Capabilities

  • Commercial mindset: you connect marketing metrics to business outcomes
  • Clear communicator: you explain analysis in language stakeholders understand
  • Proactive problem-solver: you anticipate issues and recommend solutions
  • Pragmatic approach: you deliver insights that enable decisions, not perfect analysis
  • Collaborative mindset: you build trust through reliability and transparency

Why Law Partners?

  • Purpose-driven work: your insights help more Australians access compensation they deserve
  • High-impact role: direct influence on marketing strategy and investment decisions
  • Career development: opportunity to build advanced analytics skills as we scale
  • Hybrid flexibility: Sydney CBD office above Town Hall Station with flexible working
  • Growth environment: high-performing culture with genuine development opportunities
  • Autonomy: shape how we measure and optimise marketing performance
